2010 Best Cooperation of the Year: The Faculty of Electrical Engineering (V. Smutny, P. Krsek from the Dept. of Cyberneticsand P. Pisa from the Dept. of Control Engineering), CTU in Prague and the company Neovision received the third place for the project Mobile Robot for Air Condition Duct Cleaning. The annual competition is organized by the American Chamber of Commerce of the Czech Republic and the Association for Foreign Investment. The project was also awarded the Special Prize by the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic. (September 2010)
2010 Invention Award in the National Competition "Ceska hlava": Prof. Vladimir Marik and Prof Michal Pechoucek from the Czech Technical University in Prague, Department of Cybernetics were granted the 2010 award by the Kapsch company for research in the area of multi-agent technologies and their impact in industry applications. Both researchers are the founders of the Czech school of autonomous decentralized decision systems based on artificial intelligence. Results of their research are used by the US Army e.g. for modelling of behaviour of pirate troops in the Gulf of Aden, air-traffic control, manufacturing control for one of the largest razor producer - Gillette etc.
Lukas Neumann's diploma thesis A Method for Text Localization and Recognition in Real-World Images supervised by J. Matas won the Master Thesis of Year 2010 in Informatics award in the database engines and applications category. An ACCV'10 paper describing the contribution will be posted shortly. Lukas Neumann started his PhD in CMP in September 2010.
Lukas Zich's diploma thesis Control of Computer by Head Movements supervised by M. Urban and J. Matas won the Master these of year 2009 in Informatics award in the medical information technology category. Ondrej Sychrovsky's diploma thesis Car-to-obstacle distance estimation from a sequence of images supervised by Tomas Pajdla scored third in Porsche Engineering Award 2009 (press release).
CSKI prize for the best PhD work in 2008: Karel Zimmermann's PhD thesis Fast Learnable Methods for Object Tracking, co-supervised by Jiri Matas and Tomas Svoboda, was awarded the Antonin Svoboda prize for the best PhD dissertation in the Czech Republic in the field of cybernetics and informatics in 2008. The prize was awarded by the Czech Society for Cybernetics and Informatics (CSKI). Look at a demo page with details and accompanied publications. (June 2009)
The team FELBOT won the national autonomous robots contest EUROBOT 2009 (April 24, 2009). The team FELaaCzech scored the 3rd place. Both teams have been supported by the Department of Cybernetics, Intelligent and Mobile Robotics Group. read more
Petr Kremen was awarded the 2nd prize in the NeOn Plugin Developer's Contest for the "OWLdiff Plugin". OWLdiff enables comparing and merging two ontologies. (Dec 2008)
A student team (led by Tomas Krajnik and Jan Faigl) from the Intelligent and Mobile Robotics Group won the Robotour 2008 challenge (20 Sep 2008, Praha-Stromovka park). Cognitive capabilities of the CTU robot ensured faultless navigation and thus highest score out of 17 teams read more in Czech.
Engineering Academy Award 2007 for the excellent realization "A-Globe: a tool for multi-agent simulation and integration of large distributed applications" to the team led by Dr. M. Pechoucek

2006 European IST Prize for the I4Control® system: A new type of computer periphery ensuring non-contact control of a personal computer through eye (or head) movements. Nominee for the 2006 European IST Grand Prize

2004 Special Award of the Jury in the National Competition "Česká hlava" ("Czech Brain") to the system for PC control by eye movements, I4Control®. The "Česká hlava" project and related competition are aimed at supporting excellent research work and innovations in the Czech Republic.
EU Centre of Excellence: Department of Cybernetics defended the title "Centre of Excellence" in 2004. Evaluation criteria included quality of research, level of PhD training, and integration into the European Research Area.
