Jesus Capitan presents Cooperative navigation and planning for multi-drone systems

On 2019-06-06 11:00 at E112, Karlovo náměstí 13, Praha 2
The GRVC lab at the University of Seville has a long tradition on autonomous
aerial robots and multi-robot systems. In this talk, I will present some of our
recent results on multi-robot systems, mainly with aerial robots. Our
multi-robot research focuses on outdoor applications where several robots need
to cooperate in a common scenario to perform jointly certain tasks like
exploring, tracking, etc. This setting includes a wide spectrum of
applications,
such as surveillance, inspection, cinematography, delivery, etc. In particular,
I will present work on multi-drone navigation, planning and high-level
decision-making.

First, I will develop on algorithms for reactive navigation and conflict
resolution with multiple drones, and I will talk briefly about decision-making
under uncertainty. Then, I will introduce our running project MULTIDRONE, on
aerial cinematography. I will talk about optimal trajectory planning for
cinematography applications, and about multi-robot, high-level planning and
scheduling for media production. Last, I will introduce our work in robot
competitions and other projects dealing with drone integration into the
U-space.

Jesús Capitán is Assistant Professor at the University of Seville. He
received
his degree in Telecommunication Engineering (2006) and his Ph.D. in Robotics
(2011) from the University of Seville.
During his Ph.D., he worked as a visiting fellow at the Robotics Institute,
Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, U.S.A.; and the Institute for Systems
and Robotics, Instituto Superior Tecnico, Lisboa, Portugal. After his Ph.D., he
worked as a senior researcher at the Institute for Systems and Robotics,
Instituto Superior Tecnico, Lisboa, Portugal (2011-2012); and the Networked
Embedded System Group, University of Duisburg-Essen, Essen, Germany
(2012-2013).
Then, he joined the GRVC (Group of Robotics, Vision and Control) lab at the
University of Seville, led by Prof. Aníbal Ollero, in 2013. He has
participated
in more than 15 projects (10 international) and as a member of the Al-Robotics
team in the MBZIRC competition. He is PI from University of Seville in the
European project MULTIDRONE. He is author of around 50 publications focusing on
multi-robot cooperation and decision making, as well as planning under
uncertainty. He is Associate Editor of the International Journal of Advanced
Robotics Systems and jury member of the euRathlon competition on aerial
robotics
(2015).
