Leonard Mentzl presents Statistical Methods of Pattern Recognition

On 2020-01-16 14:30 at G205, Karlovo náměstí 13, Praha 2
We study estimators of parameters of stochastic models (moment matching, maximal
likelihood) for data of a specific type. They are numerical, but subject to
group operations different from those of the field of real numbers.
Thus notions like the mean value lose their meaning and have to be substituted
by other parameters, possibly mean values in a space of a higher dimension. The
standard methods of estimation of parameters have to be modified and new
problems arise; we study their influence.

This is the official defence of a student project, which should continue in a
future bachelor thesis.
The estimated duration is 1/2 hour including discussion.
Other topic will possibly continue during this seminar.
