Ilya Afanasyev presents Autonomous localization and navigation for mobile robots: modeling and experiments

On 2019-07-23 11:00 at E112, Karlovo náměstí 13, Praha 2
Abstract: Based on previous projects provided by Innopolis University (Russia),
the efficiency of localization and navigation approaches for mobile robots in
both indoor and outdoor environment, using sensory data and intelligent
algorithms for autonomous control, are discussed and some robotics applications
are considered. The report presents some results both in modeling mobile
robots, environments and scenarios, and in experiments with real robots
(wheeled, crawler and multirotor drones).

Biography:
Dr. Ilya Afanasyev graduated from Baltic State Technical University (St.
Petersburg, Russia) as an engineer in control systems in 2000 and received his
PhD from Vavilov State Optical Institute (St. Petersburg, Russia) in 2006. In
2010-2013 he was a Marie Curie postdoc in Mechatronics Lab. at the University
of
Trento (Italy). He also has industrial experience, worked as a Senior Engineer
in German company "Giesecke & Devrient GmbH" (2007-2010), developing banknote
processing sensors and algorithms, and as a Head of Spectral Noise Logging dep
in Kazan office of the Emirate company "TGT Oilfield Service" (2013-2015),
improving acoustic borehole technologies (hardware & software). He has also
been
engaged in national and international hardware projects for both academy and
industry in the region of sensor applications for experimental physics,
aerospace, banking, robotics and oilfield service. Since 2015 he has been
working as Assistant Professor for Innopolis University (Russia), teaching
Sensors and Sensing; Intelligent Mobile Robotics; and Control Theory courses.
His research interests revolve around Mobile Robotics, Sensing, Perception,
Autonomous systems, and the Internet of Robotics Things. He is an IEEE member
and a PC member for some international conferences, published more than 50
reviewed papers.
