Vladimir Kubelka presents Freezing Robots: Northern Robotics Laboratory at the Laval University

On 2019-12-16 11:00 at E112, Karlovo náměstí 13, Praha 2
Northern Robotics Laboratory (NORLAB) at Laval University (Québec) is
specialized in mobile and autonomous systems working in northern or difficult
conditions. We aim at investigating new challenges related to navigation
algorithms to push the boundary of what is currently possible to achieve with a
mobile robot in real-life conditions. The current focus of the laboratory is on
localization algorithms designed for laser sensors (lidar) and 3D
reconstruction of the environment.

Vladimir Kubelka defended his Ph.D. thesis at CTU in 2018, co-supervised by
Michal Reinstein and Tomas Svoboda, and has enrolled as a postdoc fellow with
the Northern Robotics Laboratory (lead by François Pomerleau) at the Laval
University in Québec. The current research topic is outdoor mobile robot
localization and mapping in winter conditions: deep snow, terrain changing due
to blizzards, low visibility and deteriorated GPS.
