Minister of the Interior Award for the Department of Cybernetics Team

The FACIS project received the 2025 Minister of the Interior Award for outstanding achievements in the field of security research.

The project impressed the evaluation committee primarily with its potential for immediate practical deployment. It comprises a suite of forensic image and video analysis tools designed for use by the criminal police and investigative services. Among the outcomes of this artificial intelligence–based project is software that enables a significant acceleration of investigations into serious crimes of a sexual nature.

Experts from the Department of Cybernetics were part of the project team. Prof. Jiří Matas served as a main researcher, along with Ing. Miroslav Purkrábek and Ing. Matěj Suchánek from the Visual Recognition Group, and Dr. Vojtěch Franc and Ing. Jakub Paplhám from the Machine Learning Group. Their work focused on the development of computer vision algorithms for person detection, age and pose estimation, and the extraction of other attributes essential for use in criminal investigation practice.
