Abstract:This diploma thesis inquires into biological signal processing technique backaveraging and its application within EEG and EMG signals analysis. The technique is used in patients with neurological malfunctions manifested by short-lasting involuntary muscle jerks. With backaveraging it is possible to find potential relations between jerks and preceding EEG activity. After general introduction into matter of backaveraging and summary of practical usage with typical parameters, the thesis pursues signal analysis of patients suffering from involuntary muscle movement in facial area, where EMG activity is present in EEG signals in the form of EMG artifacts. The thesis presents several possible ways to detect EMG activity in EEG signals, and selected methods for detecting EMG onsets. The results and comparisons are obtained from analysis of real patient’s signals datasets.
