| Abstract: |  This work focuses on detection and recognition of diacritical and punctuation marks in real-world scenes. New methods of detection and recognition of these auxiliary textual symbols are proposed and the results are empirically evaluated. The proposed methods are integrated into the existing photo-ocr system being developed at the Center for Machine Perception at Faculty of Electrical Engineering of Czech Technical University in Prague. New image datasets, specially designed for the purpose of testing of detection and recognition of diacritical and punctuation marks in real-world scenes are introduced and a method of success-rate assessment is suggested.
