Helhest from CTU succeeded in the Alps, heads into practice

Many Czech online news outlets have covered the story of the new tactical robot Helhest, named after the mythical three-legged horse from Danish mythology. The robot can reach speeds of up to 20 km/h, carry loads of up to 100 kg, and overcome half-meter obstacles. Its development is the result of a collaboration between Assoc. Prof. Karel Zimmermann, Prof. Tomáš Svoboda, and Ing. Bedřich Himmel.

Last week, the robot successfully completed demanding testing during an international exercise of robotic teams in the Austrian Alps, where it managed extreme conditions such as descending a black ski slope and operating upside down. Developed at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, the project transformed into a spin-off in just one month and is now heading to market.
