Student´s success at a math competition SVOČ

Students Jan Ševic, Dominika Burešová, and Kamila Houšková have placed third in the competition of Czech and Slovak university student’s research works in the field of mathematics, also known as the mathematical SVOČ ( https://jcmf.cz/?q=cz/node/775 , https://flurry.dg.fmph.uniba.sk/svoc2025/ ). In their work ‘Reichenbach’s causal completeness of quantum probability spaces’, they’ve answered a long-lasting open question in the field of common causes of events in quantum structures.

It is the first time in the history of our faculty that our students have placed in this prestigious competition since its creation. The work was led by supervisors Mirko Navara and Pavel Pták. The students have begun researching this topic last year with prof. Navara as a part of the Team project course. Afterwards, they have published their results in the reputable journal Mathematica Slovaca. Furthermore, they have presented their results at international conferences IQSA in Brussels, in Katowice and at a student conference First Independent Home Seminar (fihs.cz/en).

Jan Ševic (OI) teaches tutorials of the Algoritmization course and he has helped prepare the XP33CHM (Chapters in higher mathematics) course. He presented at the conference Education for the future 2024 and he is the coauthor of several publications. He is going to continue his studies as a PhD student at CIIRC CTU, during which he will be working at the department of industrial informatics of prof. Hanzálek under the guidance of doc. Šůcha.

Dominika Burešová (EEM) has been doing research for several years, she has presented her work at multiple international conferences and she is the main author of several publications. Among her best known achievements is the placement in the competition The Global Undergraduate Awards 2023. She is one of the teachers of XP33CHM and she dedicates her time to organizing projects (for example www.fihs.cz/en). She is going to continue her studies as a PhD student, during which she will be working in the center for machine percetion at the department of cybernetics under the guidance of prof. Pták.

Kamila Houšková (OI) placed third with her bachelor’s thesis in the Rektorys’ competition in 2023. Same as her colleagues, she publishes actively. In her free time, she works as the vice-president of the student society Erasmus Student Network (ESN) CTU in Prague. Furthermore, she is coorganizing the aforementioned FIHS conference, is employed at ČSOB and alongside her colleagues, she will be graduating from her master studies this semester.
