A team from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at CTU (FEL CTU), in collaboration with E.ON Group Innovation and EG.D, has successfully tested HIVE technology for the autonomous inspection of power lines using cooperating drones.
During a demonstration near Horní Cerekev, the inspection achieved 100% success over a section approximately five to six kilometers long, delivering up to 150% higher efficiency compared to traditional methods.
The technology enables BVLOS (Beyond Visual Line of Sight) flights, automatic 3D LiDAR scanning, detection of key infrastructure elements, and mission planning for multiple drones.
These drones enhance worker safety in the field, provide standardized data for predictive maintenance, and contribute to a lower carbon footprint by replacing helicopters and reducing ground travel.
